Glory, honor, and visibility for outstanding work in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality: The submission for the nextReality.Contest 2023 has started!

The association nextReality.Hamburg eV is looking for the best XR projects from the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and worldwide. The aim is to reward original ideas and creative projects in the field of VR, AR, Mixed Reality and 360° films and to promote the further development of immersive media and future technologies in Germany. With a total of 14,000 euros in prize money, the nextReality.Contest is one of the most important awards in the industry.

Companies, agencies, start-ups, students, freelance artists and developers are all invited to submit their XR projects.

Submitted projects will be reviewed by an independent panel of judges. The award ceremony will take place live and in person on November 10th at the ASTOR Film Lounge HafenCity in Hamburg.

This year, nominees and startups will have the opportunity to present their projects to the public. On the day of the awards ceremony, November 10, an exhibition will be held at the VRHQ and the FTZ, where visitors will have the opportunity to experience the innovative XR projects up close.

nextReality.Contest 2023: How to participate

Solutions from companies, agencies, start-ups as well as work from students, freelance artists and developers from the entire DACH region can be submitted. Projects from all over the world can also be submitted for the “International Production” category.

Interactive Entertainment

We are looking for unique and creative gaming experiences based on VR or AR – nextReality. Hamburg is looking forward to innovative storytelling, creative features and thrilling entertainment!

Prize money: 2,000 Euro

Interactive Business

Have you developed an exciting solution using VR or AR technology to address a business challenge? Then submit your project to the Interactive Business category!

Prize money: 2,000 Euro

Young Talent

In this category, nextReality.Hamburg is looking forward to XR projects that come exclusively from students. If young talent is to be disruptive, it must be supported!

Best Technology

NextReality.Hamburg searches for innovations that drive the immersion media business forward and honors true pioneers!

Prize money: 2,000 Euro

Best Installation

These are holistic XR experiences, ie, hardware and software projects that can be experienced either location-based or with an installation.

Interactive Education

This category is about interactive learning using XR technologies. If you have developed an immersive application with an educational approach, or training tools that focus on didactic aspects, then this is the category for your submissions!

Zeitgeist

Your XR app hits the nerve of the time? In this category, nextReality.Hamburg eV looks for XR applications that are relevant today. From journalism to art or narrative experiences – all projects that are shaped by events, circumstances, and challenges of the present are welcome.

Prize money: 2,000 Euro

International Production

For the first time, the association is looking for innovative applications from across the XR world in this category. You can submit both software and hardware cases from across the spectrum of immersive technologies.

Each entry also has a chance to win the Audience Choice Award. You can vote for the winner here!

nextReality.Contest 2023: Jury and Finals

In two phases, this year’s independent panel of experts will review, test and discuss the submitted applications and determine the finalists. The jury members include Dr. Andreas Hebbel-Seeger, Professor of Media Management at the Hamburg Campus of the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences, Sandra Kiel, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Event Punks GmbH, and Ines Hilz, XR Designer.

The grand finale will take place on November 10, 2022, when the winner will be announced at the NextReality.Contest exhibition. Here, visitors will have the exclusive opportunity to experience the innovative XR projects of the nominees up close and convince themselves of their huge potential. The exhibition offers a glimpse into the future of virtual reality and gives visitors the opportunity to get in touch with the creative minds behind the projects.

Afterwards, the winners will be announced and celebrated at the XRC Awards Ceremony. So save the date! This year it will be live in Hamburg at the Astor. All information about the exhibition, the award ceremony and how you can be there – you will find out in time HERE.

The nextReality.Conference takes place in September

On September 28th, the association organized the third nextReality.Conference (XRcon), with exciting lectures and interesting panels and time for networking. The XRcon is an independent conference of nextReality. Hamburg with content between research, technology, design, and real market potential. To allow as many interested parties as possible to participate, the association plans to hold the XRcon both virtually and via livestream.
